Employer Group Waiver Plans (EGWP’s or Eggwhips) also known as employer retiree Medicare Advantage plans are a type of health plan offered by a public or private employer to its retiree population. There are currently over 4 million retirees in Eggwhips nationwide.
Created by the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003, Eggwhips successfully enable employers nationwide to maintain consistent benefits and contain costs for health coverage in retirement for enrollees. Waivers enable Eggwhips to provide customized benefits to match existing benefits of the members current health coverage, these plans are typically a PPO plan instead of a HMO.
Humana PPO plans provide eligible retirees the freedom to choose providers (as long as the provider accepts Medicare and agrees to bill the plan).
We work extensively with Taft-Hartley funds, union-sponsored VEBA trusts and other groups in both the private and public sectors that cover more than 70,000 collectively bargained retirees.
Humana has a dedicated Group Medicare division—including labor relations representatives and support staff—that can assist you with designing retiree medical plans, with or without prescription drugs, for multi-employer funds and other labor-sponsored benefit arrangements that qualify for Group Medicare benefit plans.
Humana can help you maintain the benefit levels your members have come to expect. In many cases, we can lower costs significantly for your plan and your retirees while maintaining those benefit levels.
